They say it’s a small world and everyone’s connected by a few degrees. But here’s something I can’t shake. I have never, not once, met a single person who’s ever had anything to do with Antarctica. Not a worker, not a scientist, not even someone who shipped Wisconsin cheese down there. Nothing. Zero. Zilch.
No one’s ever mentioned their company doing a project there. No one has a cousin who worked a season on the ice. For all the global trade and logistics we hear about, it’s like the continent exists only in textbooks and documentaries.
So I’m putting this out to the crowd. Has anyone, in real life, ever actually had contact with Antarctica? Shipped something there? Met someone who worked there? Talked to a supplier or a client connected to it? I’m not saying it’s fake... but at my age it is strange to never had any sort of shirt tail connection, right?
