I’ve been working all week to get my driver’s license back, fully expecting to be driving legally by now. NOPE!
EVERYTHING INVOLVED IS A TECHNOLOGICAL HELL! Trying to coordinate between even two offices is a Herculean task requiring a printer, a scanner, and, apparently, divine intervention.
The so-called "online digital tools" are a joke. They. Do. Not. Work. Why? Because every system is built on the assumption that we all have identical tools, software, and expertise. Meanwhile, the actual benefits of technology—streamlined workflows, interoperability—remain as mythical as unicorns.
Want to fill out a form? Good luck! It’s all a mix of PDF and Word documents, because apparently, someone in IT still thinks it’s 2007 and everyone owns Microsoft Office or wants to install a plugin. Can you open it on your phone or tablet? No. Can you easily convert it? Absolutely not. Will anyone help you? Not a chance.
Want to sign something digitally? That’ll cost you $19.99 a month for software you’ll use once. Want to email it back? Oh, sorry, the document upload feature doesn’t accept that file format. Want to bypass the mess entirely? Too bad, because the so-called "paperless" system just means you’re doing all the work they used to handle for free.
This is the future we’re walking into: a shiny, corporate dystopia where everything is labeled "digital" but nothing actually works. Where the burden is shifted entirely onto you, the individual, to make broken systems function. And let’s be honest—these systems don’t care about your time, your resources, or your sanity.
If you work for any public-facing organization using systems like these—where you expect people to magically download, fill out, and return signed forms—listen up. Whatever "perfect" solution you think you’ve implemented is not working. Not for the public. Not for the people you’re supposed to serve.
The entire concept of "form filling" as it stands today is a broken system. A system that puts all the responsibility on the individual, without providing the tools or infrastructure to make it possible. And unless something changes, we’re all just stumbling deeper into this tech-infused bureaucratic hell.
