GAME INTRODUCTION
-----------------

Welcome to Tracks of Terror: The Last Train to Save Your Butt, a daily
survival-horror story. Each entry follows a trek from the back of a runaway
train to the locomotive, through zombies, maniacs, and other hazards. Readers
guess which action keeps the narrator alive; the correct choice and the
doomed alternatives are revealed in the next installment.

The five possible actions are Fight, Sneak, Improvise, Persuade, and Loot.
The reader with the most correct guesses at the end of the journey was
promised a mystery prize and bragging rights.

THE OUTBREAK
------------

It began with rumors of a virus. By the time anyone believed them, undead
crowded the streets, buildings burned, barricades collapsed, and screams
echoed on every corner. The narrator hid in a hardware store until the horde
broke through. With nowhere else to run, he saw a driverless train moving
down the tracks and leapt onto its last car just ahead of the mob.

His heartbeat had barely settled when he discovered that the real nightmare
was inside: car after car of infected people, gutted compartments, and
unknown dangers. He set out for the locomotive, hoping to stop the train or
at least find answers.

DAY 1: THE SCREAMING PASSENGER
------------------------------

I am in the final car of the train. The windows are shattered, the overhead
lights spark, and metal clangs beneath my feet. A single figure is strapped
into a seat at the far end, howling as though they have forgotten how to
breathe any other way. The scream rebounds from the twisted seats and shakes
me to my core.

Is it a person in distress, or something undead waiting to pounce? Either
way, I cannot stand here. That noise will draw every zombie within earshot.

I step over broken glass, my heart pounding. The flickering lights turn the
car into a strobe-lit haunted house -- and perhaps that is exactly what it
is. If I cannot find a safe way into the next car, I will be the main course
at tonight's apocalypse buffet.

Even with my ears ringing, I catch the faint smell of smoke. An orange glow
flickers through the crack around the next car's door. It could be a small
fire or a raging inferno. I have to move before the train becomes my flaming
tomb.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
------------------

Fight -- Confront the screamer and silence the threat before it draws
               more undead.

Sneak -- Slip past unnoticed, keeping close to the walls and quiet.

Improvise -- Use the surroundings or any available tools to gain an
               advantage.

Persuade -- Try to talk the screamer down if they are still human.

Loot -- Search the overturned luggage for supplies or weapons.

The original post invited readers to submit a guess. The next installment
was to reveal the surviving choice and the horrible fates attached to the
others.
