YESTERDAY'S SURVIVING CHOICE: SNEAK
-----------------------------------
With the walls twisted inward and jagged metal overhead, I crept through the
narrow passage as quietly as possible. Every creak threatened to bring it
down, and undead moans echoed from the dark. Once or twice, I held my breath
as something scuttled inches away. By avoiding sudden movement I kept the
debris in place and finally tumbled through the far door in one piece.
THE ROADS NOT TAKEN
-------------------
Fight -- Smashing debris would have collapsed the fragile structure,
crushing me or pinning me for the zombies.
Improvise -- One misplaced beam while trying to shore up the corridor
would have brought down the whole house of cards.
Persuade -- A shout would alert every hungry corpse nearby and might
shake loose the precarious wreckage.
Loot -- Digging in unstable metal and glass would invite a cave-in.
THE FLOODED CAR
---------------
The next car is filled with cold, stagnant water. Broken luggage and trash
float lazily across the aisle while flickering lights reflect in the dark,
rippling surface.
A strange gurgle rises from the rear, like water in a half-clogged drain. It
might be a burst pipe -- or something undead beneath the murk. The water is
only ankle-deep here, but other places look much deeper, perhaps where the
floor has caved in. One careless step could drop me into whatever is below.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
------------------
Fight -- Wade in with weapons ready for the first sign of movement.
Sneak -- Move slowly and avoid disturbing the water.
Improvise -- Make stepping stones from debris or find a way to drain it.
Persuade -- Call for survivors or startle anything hiding underwater.
Loot -- Search the floating junk for a light, rope, or other gear.
The cold numbs my legs, and something seems to brush against me. Tomorrow's
choice decides whether I stay afloat or join the submerged dead.
