YESTERDAY'S SURVIVING CHOICE: IMPROVISE
---------------------------------------

In the ransacked med-bay, I made a barricade from a collapsed bed frame and
metal cabinet doors. It funneled whatever lurked behind the curtain into a
choke point, or frightened it away. I recovered a half-used bottle of
disinfectant and some gauze, then slipped out while furious scratching
rattled the barrier behind me.

THE ROADS NOT TAKEN
-------------------

Fight -- A headlong attack in the cramped car would become a bloody
wrestling match with no room to maneuver.

Sneak -- Scattered trays and glass vials would betray a quiet approach.

Persuade -- Calling out would announce dinner to anything still inside.

Loot -- Searching every locker without first securing the room would
               invite an ambush.

THE FROZEN FREIGHT CAR
----------------------

The next door opens onto a freezer. My breath hangs in the air while icy
wind tears through a gaping hole where part of the train's metal wall has
been ripped away. Tracks and night sky whip past at terrifying speed.

Crates and wooden pallets stand in precarious stacks, all glazed with ice.
The floor is treacherous; one bad step could send me into the cargo or out
through the missing wall. Chains rattle in the wind, as though something
might be clinging to the outside of the train and trying to enter.

My teeth chatter and my lips are going numb. Between the cold, the broken
wall, and a shadow moving among the crates, this car offers several ways to
die.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
------------------

Fight -- Brave the ice and confront whatever hides among the crates.

Sneak -- Cross silently while avoiding the hole and watching shadows.

Improvise -- Use cargo to stabilize the stacks, block the wind, or make
               traction for your boots.

Persuade -- Call into the cold and hope something reasonable answers.

Loot -- Search the crates for warmth, traction, or a safety rope.

The temperature keeps dropping, the wind howls through the broken wall, and
the shadow between the crates shifts again.
