TRACKS OF TERROR -- DAY 14: THE SERUM GAMBLE ============================================ Published: March 4, 2025 Author: Daniel Conderman Context: Recovered Conderman.Group interactive survival-horror serial Original URL: https://conderman.group/2025/03/day-14-the-serum-gamble/ R.C.'S DECISION: IMPROVISE -------------------------- R.C. is in bad shape--broken ribs, a nasty limp--but he is not done fighting. Tired of feeling vulnerable, he eyes the Catalyst vials like a lifeline. "I need a shot," he mutters, cradling his injured side. "We can't do this half-dead." He grabs a glowing vial labeled "Catalyst Serum #4." Without Penny to weigh in, he looks to the rest of us for approval. Nobody knows the side effects; the label is all warnings and cryptic codes. R.C. insists EmergenTek made it for a reason. Maybe it will numb the pain and give him an edge. A younger survivor tries to stop him. R.C. ignores them, draws the fluid into a makeshift syringe, and injects his arm. For a tense minute he doubles over, pouring sweat. Then his breathing evens. He looks up, bloodshot but alert. "Hurts less," he manages, his voice taut with adrenaline. NO WORD FROM PENNY ------------------ Penny was last seen examining data chips near the cryo-chambers. Now there is no sign of her. Did she slip into the auxiliary corridor alone? No one has an answer. HIGH RISK, HIGH REWARD? ----------------------- For now R.C. has neither collapsed nor mutated. He moves better, grim determination on his face, while everyone watches him warily. If the serum is a temporary boost, he might push himself too far. If there is a hidden side effect, this lab needs no more unpredictability. One half-fried data chip references "Subject 3 -- Tissue Regeneration," possibly the purpose of the serum. Whether that helps R.C. or dooms him remains to be seen. PRESSING DEEPER INTO CAR 14 --------------------------- We have cleared only half the twisted lab. Sparks pop from ruined consoles and chemical leaks hiss. Beyond the bent partition, a flickering lamp reveals broken cryo-chambers. There are no moaning zombies--only a silence that feels worse. R.C. flexes his arm. "We can't stay here. Whatever's in the next room, I'll handle it." His eyes search for Penny, but she is nowhere to be found. What is your approach? Fight -- Put R.C.'s newfound strength at the front of an assault. Sneak -- Search the shadows for Penny without alerting the subjects. Improvise -- Rig freeze grenades or reinforce the floor-release trap. Persuade -- Keep the group together and calm R.C. down. Loot -- Search the logs for Penny or the serum's true effects. Will the serum save R.C. or shatter him? And will Penny emerge from the shadows--or need saving herself?
