TRACKS OF TERROR -- DAY 16: CAR 14 -- FACING THE REGENERATOR ============================================================ Published: March 5, 2025 Author: Daniel Conderman Context: Recovered Conderman.Group interactive survival-horror serial Original URL: https://conderman.group/2025/03/day-16-car-14-facing-the-regenerator/ GAME/BLOG INTRODUCTION ---------------------- Welcome back, unyielding survivors, to Tracks of Terror: The Last Train to Save Your Butt! I'm Barnabas, here to recap how each of us faces the looming nightmare in Car 14. Today, we have a classic split: R.C. wants to Fight, while Penny plans to Improvise--both aiming to stop whatever regeneration-crazed horror EmergenTek cooked up behind that sealed door. We hopped trains after our original ride crashed into a zombie-infested wreck. Now we're stuck in EmergenTek's twisted Car 14, rumored to contain subjects that can't die--or at least are extremely hard to kill. Our last move was a partial success; R.C. and Penny wiped out minor zombies in the corridor, but the bigger threat, labeled "Subject 3: Tissue Regen," still lurks behind a flickering, locked partition. INDIVIDUAL CHOICES ------------------ R.C. (Fight) Powered by the Catalyst #4 serum, R.C. has gone full berserker. Despite broken ribs and a limp, he refuses to let anything slow him down. He has a machete, a freeze grenade looped at his belt, and an urge to tear open that door. Penny (Improvise) Penny is not keen on a headlong assault against a regenerating monster. She wants to use the floor-release trap, leftover cryo-tech, or freeze grenades more strategically. "If we can't kill it, we can contain it... or drop it," she mutters. HOW THE CLASH UNFOLDS --------------------- Before anyone can say otherwise, R.C. rams his shoulder into the sealed door. A shower of sparks is followed by a screech of steel. The door slides partway open--just enough for a thick, grotesque arm to swing out, nearly knocking him off his feet. He answers with a brutal machete slash that draws greenish-black ichor. A roar rattles the overhead lights, but R.C. keeps slashing, fueled by adrenaline and maybe the serum. While R.C. holds the creature's attention, Penny scrambles to a side console. "There's gotta be a release switch!" she shouts. She spots a hatch labeled "CRYO DUMP," presumably tied to the freeze tech or leftover cryo-chambers, and jams her crowbar under the panel. Sparks fly and frigid air seeps out. She tosses a freeze grenade into the open chamber, hoping to supercharge the cold. Frost snakes across the floor. If she can lure the beast onto the freezing patch, maybe it will slow or seize up. OUTCOME: PARTIAL SUCCESS, MAJOR DANGER -------------------------------------- Together, their gambit stuns Subject 3. Frost creeps over its legs and halts its charge, but the advantage does not last. Its charred, frozen flesh begins knitting together in real time, thick cords of sinew re-fusing beneath the ice. It roars and thrashes, cracking the frost away. A spiked tail--or perhaps an elongated spine--lashes out and clips R.C.'s machete hand. Blood spatters the wall. Penny screams for him to retreat, but he is too amped up to listen and lunges again. Subtle clue: The regeneration is not instant. Freezing and cutting definitely slow the healing process, but not enough to keep it down for long. We may need repeated hits or some permanent containment strategy. THE CRITICAL HALF OF THE CAR ---------------------------- Car 14's final chamber is a half-collapsed lab full of shattered cryo-tubes and broken cables. The jammed-open door lets the moans of scattered zombies drift in from behind us. Sparks flicker across the frosty floor around the creature's feet. R.C. is in a frenzy, ignoring pain, while Penny desperately tries to keep the cryo system pumping cold air. Meanwhile, I'm stuck behind a knocked-over console. The other survivors hover at the corridor entrance, torn between helping and staying out of the line of fire. YOUR MOVE --------- We're halfway through the final showdown. What is your personal strategy? Fight -- Join R.C.; repeated freezing and slashing might stop healing. Sneak -- Circle around for a structural weakness or unseen flank. Improvise -- Rig more cryo dumps or reconnect the floor release. Persuade -- Rally every able survivor into a coordinated takedown. Loot -- Search for an override or regeneration-disrupting chemical. Subject 3 is already healing again. Tomorrow we learn whether anyone emerges from this frost-laced battlefield--and whether the abomination goes down or makes us its next meal.
