I'm Barnabas, still alive for the moment amid a chaotic final stand in Car 14. Our regenerating enemy is on the ropes--if "piecing itself back together" counts as being on the ropes. R.C. has pivoted to Improvise while Penny aims to Sneak. After fleeing a zombified train wreck, we boarded this second locomotive and stumbled into EmergenTek's Car 14. We wrestled one abomination through a floor release, then confronted a second creature that can regenerate nearly any damage. Freezing has slowed it, but it refuses to stay down. INDIVIDUAL CHOICES ------------------ R.C. (Improvise) R.C. focuses on the leftover cryo equipment, freeze grenades, and newly found CRYO REINFORCER. Turning the environment into a weapon may be our only shot. Penny (Sneak) While R.C. tinkers, Penny slips around the thrashing beast unnoticed to sabotage it from behind or deliver a precise strike. She is done charging head-on and would rather move like a shadow. R.C.'S IMPROVISED PLAN ---------------------- Gritting his teeth, R.C. staggers to a half-frozen console near the twisted metal partition. He hooks the CRYO REINFORCER's hoses to the battered cryo-feed lines. Sparks dance around him, and everyone can see the mania in his eyes; Catalyst #4 is still at work. "C'mon, you piece of junk," he mutters, forcing open a control valve. A grinding mechanical hum fills the air. The lines rattle and flood the chamber with super-chilled mist. Ice spiderwebs across the floor. "It's now or never!" R.C. yells as a gust of freezing vapor engulfs the monster. PENNY'S SNEAK ATTEMPT --------------------- While the creature swipes at the swirling ice, Penny darts behind shattered cryo-chambers. Steam and frost provide cover. Inch by inch she skirts its flank, stepping over broken glass with eerie calm. She reaches a gap behind the monstrosity and tightens her grip on her weapon, ready to strike or distract it if it breaks free. OUTCOME: FREEZING TIDES TURNING ------------------------------- R.C.'s cold surge slams the already battered monster with a final wave of ice. Frost expands over its limbs like a creeping glacier. Its mouth opens in a silent roar as ice crawls up its torso. Penny drives a piece of twisted metal into one of its joints, locking it against a collapsed cryo-tank. The freezing environment and her sabotage stall its regeneration. For a moment the car becomes a sub-zero tomb. Frost crackles on the walls, cables freeze in place, and our breath hangs like ghosts. Subject 3 stands half-encased in ice, immobile for now. Subtle clue: Flesh still twitches beneath the ice. If it thaws, we may be back to square one. We need a permanent solution--perhaps the floor release or a meltdown. DANGEROUSLY COLD VICTORY ------------------------ Survivors shuffle forward cautiously, axes and pistols aimed. R.C. collapses to one knee, breathing in ragged gasps. The Catalyst surges in his veins, but he is nearly spent. Penny emerges from the shadows, sweat freezing on her brow. We have not confirmed a kill, but have bought precious time. Do we finish the creature or contain it further? The floor-release trap might still work if we can route power to it in this frigid environment. YOUR MOVE --------- Fight -- Hack the ice-encased beast apart. Sneak -- Leave it frozen, evacuate survivors, and seal the car. Improvise -- Repurpose the floor release or rig an explosive. Persuade -- Coordinate a careful final plan before anyone gets hasty. Loot -- Find an override or chemical that nullifies regeneration. Subject 3 is on ice, but how do we ensure it stays down? The slightest thaw could resurrect our worst nightmare.
