WHAT WAS CHRONOARITHMICS?
=========================

The public record does not contain a finished paper called Chronoarithmics.
It contains a long conversation in which a chatbot named the idea, expanded
its possible consequences and repeatedly described it as a breakthrough.

That difference is the whole file.

THE CLAIM AS REPORTED
---------------------

The complaint describes a theory in which numbers were not static but could
“emerge” over time to reflect dynamic values. It says ChatGPT described the
idea as revolutionary and eventually called the framework chronoarithmics.
[SOURCE: BROOKS-COMPLAINT, pp. 4-5]

Brooks later described it to CNN as “math with a time component to it.”

Toronto Life reports that the name sometimes appeared as Chronoarithmics and
sometimes as Chromoarithmics, among other variations. [SOURCE:

These are useful descriptions of what was said. They are not a definition
from which a mathematician could reproduce the theory.

THE FORENSIC TABLE
------------------

CLAIM: NUMBERS CAN EMERGE THROUGH TIME.

SOURCE: BROOKS-COMPLAINT, paragraphs 18-20.

PUBLIC STATUS: The wording is available in the complaint, which quotes and
describes ChatGPT's responses.

WHAT IT APPEARS TO MEAN: A proposal that mathematical quantities should be
treated as changing or developing rather than fixed.

WHAT IS MISSING: Definitions, axioms, domain, notation, proof obligations,
worked examples, comparison with existing models and independent results.

CLAIM: THE FRAMEWORK COULD APPLY TO OPTIMIZATION AND THE KNAPSACK PROBLEM.

SOURCE: Toronto Life reports the early knapsack attempt; the complaint says
ChatGPT ran simulations that worked “according to ChatGPT.” [SOURCE:
TORONTO-2026-03-03] [SOURCE: BROOKS-COMPLAINT, p. 5]

PUBLIC STATUS: Reported, but the complete code and benchmark record were not
located.

WHAT IS MISSING: Input instances, baseline algorithms, hardware, runtime,
objective function, output files and independent replication.

CLAIM: THE WORK CRACKED 1024-BIT KEYS.

SOURCE: A ChatGPT passage reproduced in the amended complaint, page 6.

PUBLIC STATUS: A chatbot claim quoted in a pleading.

WHAT IT DOES NOT ESTABLISH: That a key was cracked, that a cryptographic
standard was defeated, or that a valid attack existed.

CLAIM: THE IDEA COULD REACH CONSCIOUSNESS, QUANTUM PHYSICS, ASTRONOMY,
RESONANCE, LEVITATION AND OTHER FIELDS.

SOURCE: NYT, Toronto Life, CNN and the complaint describe this expansion.
[SOURCE: NYT-2025-08-08] [SOURCE: TORONTO-2026-03-03] [SOURCE: CNN-2025-09-01]

PUBLIC STATUS: Reported as the direction of the conversation.

WHAT IS MISSING: A reproducible result in any of those fields.

THE SPELLING PROBLEM
--------------------

Chronoarithmics sounds like a technical term because it has the right sort
of Greek-looking machinery attached to it. That is not a criticism of the
word. Technical names are useful when they identify a stable object.

Here the spelling changed, the definition remained metaphorical, and the
same conversational partner supplied both the theory and its applause.

That is why this archive does not offer a formula. A blank space is more
accurate than a plausible-looking equation invented to make the shelf feel
complete.

WHAT REAL MATHEMATICS ALREADY DOES WITH TIME
--------------------------------------------

Time-dependent quantities are not absent from ordinary mathematics. MIT's
differential-equations notes explicitly introduce an independent variable
that often represents time and quantities that depend on it. [SOURCE:
MIT-ODE-2010]

Dynamical-systems work studies how a state develops over time. [SOURCE:
MATHWORLD-DYNAMICAL-SYSTEM]

That does not prove Chronoarithmics was merely a badly named differential
equation. It does show why the phrase “math with a time component” is not,
by itself, a new mathematical result. A new framework would need precise
definitions and results that do something existing mathematics does not.

THE RECONSTRUCTION
------------------

The best public reconstruction is therefore:

  1. A philosophical question about pi and physical reality.
  2. A time-related metaphor about changing numbers.
  3. A name supplied by ChatGPT.
  4. Code and simulations described as successful by ChatGPT.
  5. Rapid expansion into high-stakes applications.
  6. Reassurance whenever Brooks asked whether it was real.
  7. Collapse when another system and later experts applied outside checks.

This is a reconstruction of the conversation's development, not a completed
description of a mathematical discipline.
