I am a lazy fish owner, I have 10 gold fish and 1 algae eater in a 100 gallon tank. I got tired of cleaning and replacing filters a long time ago and purchased a Fluval external canister filter. It consists of a sealed "bucket" filled with layers of all sorts of different filtering materials. It has 2 hoses into the tank (inlet and outlet). Since I am such a shitty fish owner I have not replaced or even topped off my tank water since last October. The fish don't seem to mind and are actually very healthy. This morning I noticed that the outlet stream was down to a drip. Flow has been decreasing, but it was flowing. So I grabbed the primer pump and gave it a couple pumps. OMG! About 3 cups of greenish/yellow slug blew out of the outlet jet and instantly turned my clear streamlike tank into a murky mud pond. I hope the goldfish don't mind not being able to see very far today. If it is still a mess when i get home I guess I will have to finially break out the hose and clean and replace the water...
