AI Is Not Your Coworker. It Is Your Autopilot.
There is a massive misunderstanding right now about how people actually use AI at work.
Can AI "do" your job? Probably. Will it be good at it? Maybe. That depends on how good you are now and what the job really involves.
The confusion starts when people give AI tools names, personalities, and let them self reference. ChatGPT, Gemini, whatever you are using. Once it starts talking like a person, your brain fills in the blanks. It feels like there is something in there that understands you, cares about the outcome, or is quietly thinking about your problems when you are gone.
That is the trick.
There is no little AI buddy sitting around worried about you. When the chat ends, it is gone. What you are seeing is an extremely good autocomplete system that reflects your inputs back at you in a conversational way. It feels alive because conversation is powerful, not because there is an entity on the other side.
This is why the idea of "set it and forget it" AI is mostly nonsense. AI is horrible at that. You cannot tell it to do your job and then walk away. You will get something that looks fine on the surface and quietly breaks in the real world.
A better way to think about AI is autopilot.
Commercial airplane autopilot handles routine, stability, and boring parts of flight. A fighter jet autopilot does something different. It keeps the plane within the laws of physics so the pilot can fly fast, aggressive, and creatively without crashing.
That second version is how AI actually shines.
You do not replace yourself with AI. You augment yourself with it. You stay in control, constantly steering, correcting, and pushing forward. Used this way, AI makes competent people look like geniuses.
That is the move.
