Season 4 of Rick and Morty is just unbelievably great. I actually fell asleep last night near the end of episode 1, so rewatched that and nearly done with 2.
I mean, if this isn't nominated for some award someplace, that's a crime. The layers upon layers of social commentary, satire and hilariously deployed crud humor, it is just magnifique.
South Park and R&M are at the 'top of the game' right now with their messages. While SP cranks out whole sledgehammer-esk episodes mocking politics and news the same week it's happening, that's amazing; R&M takes years to produce and is a finely honed blade.
Looking back on things like Flintstones, The Critic, and Family Dog, it isn't the same league, yet the same ballpark. I don't know what that was besides dumb stories wasting your time. They had no message.
If you think cartoons are dumb or Bart Simpson is too naughty, you should take another look as to what is happening through these shows. Just massive amounts of strong social commentary communicated with an art form instead of a couple of jack-balls on the M5M screaming at each other.
