I'm thinking about trying something and wanted to see if there is any local interest.
With all the bad press around Windows 11, older computers getting pushed aside, and perfectly good hardware being treated like garbage because Microsoft says it is "not supported," I feel like this might finally be the moment for a lot of people to look at Linux.
And by Linux, I mean **Ubuntu**.
That is what I use. It is free, clean, stable, and honestly pretty easy once someone helps you get over the first hump. For a lot of normal computer use -- web browsing, email, documents, music, photos, streaming, basic office stuff -- Ubuntu can breathe new life into older laptops and desktops that might otherwise get tossed.
So I'm putting out a feeler:
Would anyone be interested in some casual, one-on-one or small-group help getting started with Ubuntu?
This would not be some big formal computer class. More like: bring an old laptop, we sit down for a couple hours, back up what needs backing up, install Ubuntu, get you comfortable, and show you how to actually use the thing.
Depending on interest, I could possibly drive to people, have people come here, or maybe we could get a big table together somewhere like the Winchester and make an afternoon of it.
I'm not promising a whole program yet -- just seeing if anyone would actually want help making the jump.
If you've got an old laptop collecting dust, or you're sick of Windows getting heavier, weirder, and more controlling, let me know. This might be a fun little local project.
