For the fun of it, I hooked up an old antenna to our new telly and did the whole auto-tune process. Between Madison, Rockford and Milwaukee I can tune in 69 channels!!! That is twice as many as Rockford CableVision had in the summer of 1981 when it launched. But, they did have MTV and they played music videos, we still don't have that anymore, anyplace.
BTW you don't need to buy a "digital" antenna. Everything over-the-air has now been moved between the frequencies that used to handle channels 14to27. So any old antenna works. They are multiplexing on each channel and artificially announce themselves as there old channels for familiarity. Once analog was shut down a lot of changes happened to everyone's spectrum. It seems dorky, and I know I can watch anything I want online, but I still enjoy an old school Broadcast. Because I know it is me and a couple other people, that I will never know, who are all having the same experience together... watching an old episode of Twilight Zone all at once.
